Sandy Mitchell is a certified executive and business coach with extensive prior experience in leading and managing large international nonprofits. She applies her coaching, training and facilitation skills across public, nonprofit and business sectors, working with individuals as well as teams.

She focuses her coaching and training primarily in the areas of: working effectively in multicultural environments, intercultural communication and development, leadership development, team building, planning and goal setting, organizational and personal assessment, non-profit governance

What's Important to Me

Having worked in various international environments and international organizations, Sandy is committed to promoting greater intercultural sensitivity in our workplaces and in our lives and is dedicated to helping individuals and organizations enhance their leadership and communication skills, and intercultural competence.

What Motivates Me

Sandy is especially motivated by seeing the greater self-awareness and insights that her individual and group clients gain, as a result of her coaching and workshops, into their own cultural identity and their communication, behavioral and decision-making styles, and into how they can work more effectively with others – be that colleagues or people they serve - who may be very different from themselves.

Corporate Experience

  • Running a team-building and communications process with all the staff of a small nonprofit organization that provides merit-based funding for advanced educational opportunities to deserving first- and second-generation new Americans.
  • Coaching the Executive Director of a national religious organization in a leadership development program and facilitating the national entity in revising its governance process.
  • Providing leadership and supervisory coaching to a senior staff at a non-profit organization, Adult Resources Center (ARC NY).
  • Strategic Planning and team-building with the CEO and executive team of CampusWorks, a provider of technology solutions to universities.
  • Prior to becoming an Executive and Business Coach, Sandy was the Executive Director of the International YMCA in New York.
  • Previously, Sandy was the Chief Intercultural Education Officer and held various other leadership positions with AFS Intercultural Programs.
  • Served for two years as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand.

Government Experience

  • New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS)

    Since 2016 served as a facilitator on the Driving Improved Results team’s contract with the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), Sandy has facilitated training workshops for employees of New York City through an open enrollment catalog and for specific NYC agencies who have specifically requested her courses, including:
