A Team Improves Communication, Better Utilizes Strengths, Sees Gaps

A nonprofit organization with a small staff that provides merit-based graduate school fellowships to first- and second-generation new Americans felt they could benefit from understanding each of their communication and behavioral styles better in order to avoid or overcome miscommunication and work better as a team.

How We Helped

Ran a teambuilding and communications process with the entire staff, including the Executive Director.

This involved the use of two assessment tools (DISC and Driving Forces) followed by individual and group sessions to debrief the results of the assessments and identify areas to be worked on for smoother cooperation and most efficient results.

Results Achieved

  • This process led to clarity of roles, better understanding and appreciation of everyone’s communications and behavioral styles, and increased team spirit.
  • The individuals and team as a whole became more aware of what each brought to the team and specific areas that needed to be addressed.
  • One key area identified was that the overall team lacked a sense of urgency, and only one team member brought the level of analysis that the others had to depend on.
  • The group is reviewing workflow to identify where and how to overcome delays and build more on the under-utilized analysis of a specific team member.
